pool deck coatings

Every year dozens of local pool owners open their pools to one or many horrors.
  • Severe water leaks caused by broken underground pipes
  • Vinyl liners brittle and cracking from harsh chemicals
  • Stained and worn away plaster
  • Sinking concrete pool decks, delaminating coping stone, tile and plaster
  • Heaters with corroded and leaking heat exchangers
  • Vinyl liners wrinkled or destroyed by underground water drainage problems

The Pool Chemist's emphasis on preventative maintenance for your swimming pool surfaces, plumbing and equipment, including our electronic leak detection service, can alleviate much of this worry and stress.

Pool Openings
Opening includes an initial shock to clear the water of organic material. Usually a few filter cycles will clear the water sufficiently to vacuum and balance the chemicals. If the pool is left standing into warmer weather, it can develop thick algae or gather organic material such as leaves. This may require multiple shock visits and rakings before the pool is ready for a final vacuuming and balancing of water chemistry. We suggest you open your pool as early as possible to avoid these problems.

Pumping off a couple of feet of water on a solid cover is a separate operation and requires two trips to open the pool. To save money, the pool owner can purchase a submersible sump pump, attach a garden hose, and place it on the cover with a pie plate uinderneath to avoid the possibility of pumping water out of the pool. My customers can call for my assistance with this process, and I will provide you with a pump if need be.

If the pool water is low and filtration cannot be started from the bottom drain, another trip is required. Please use a garden hose to raise the water level before I get there. If you open early and the water on your cover is fairly clean, you can pump this water into your pool. The initial shock will take care of a little dirty water.
